The Lemo 3K.93C is the only connector design to meet all the HDTV broadcasting requirements set out by the Japanese ARIB Standard BTA S-1005B, the SMPTE Standard 304M and cable Standard 311M and the EBU issued Standard R100-1999. With over 20,000 of these connectors in use, the reliable stainless steel Lemo 3K.93C connector system has proven itself in applications from studio and stadiums to regular OB van use.

The system has increasingly been used at major Olympic events from Atlanta in 1996 through to the Winter Olympics in Turin, as HD has become more popular.

Other installations include the Portland Trailblazers Arena, Madison Square Gardens, the Royal Opera House and most of the football stadia and OB vans in Germany for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

As well as meeting global standards for the connector interface, the Lemo 3K.93C range has been adopted as the connector of choice by many major organisations on a global basis.

3mm fibre designed to enhance network planning
When it comes to network flexibility and scale, is not always possible to predict the future - but you can plan for it effectively, with the new Blolite+ air blown fibre solution from Brand-Rex

Brand-Rex reckons it has rewritten the rules on cable design with the launch of one of the most individual, innovative and advanced networking cables currently available. The cable, which adopts the three-sided shape of a ‘reuleaux’ triangle, is designed to offer technically superior transmission performance for future high speed networks, but is also unique among the thousands of ordinary circular-profile cables currently available.

Launched as part of Brand-Rex’s complete 10 gigabit Ethernet cabling system solution, 10GPlus, the shape was chosen to minimise the cable’s diameter whilst fully addressing the issues of alien cross-talk (AXT) that have been the weak point for many other systems launched into the market.

AXT refers to the presence of performance-reducing electrical interference between cables - an issue magnified by the higher frequency spectrum over which 10Gbit/s Ethernet will operate.

The result of over 4000 man-hours of R and D and seven new patent applications, Brand-Rex’s new reuleaux-shaped 10GPlus UTP cable creates the maximum effective spacing between adjacent cables, while maintaining a small, lightweight and highly flexible construction, enabling maximum performance to be maintained when cables are grouped together in real-life network installations.

‘Businesses must remember that the choices made today will impact business application performance for years to come’, he said.

Fibres put under the microscope in Anaheim
Timbercon will host a special fibre optic cable testing and inspection event at the OFC/NFOEC show in Anaheim, from 27th to 29th March 2007

Timbercon has unveiled the Light Armor fibre optic cable assembly product line, designed to provide customers with a lightweight, durable and easy-to-work-with fibre cable solution for applications requiring more ruggedisation than available with traditional cable optic patch cords. The Light Armor fibre optic cable incorporates the functionality of a traditional fibre cable with the durability and longevity of ruggedised cable, at a much lighter weight.

Constructed with protective plastic jacketing, Timbercon Light Armor cable assemblies are crush resistant, bend limiting (protecting fibre minimum bend radius), and water proof, making these cables suitable for a myriad of applications from interconnects to industrial and semi-harsh environment conditions.

This new product line is complementary to Timbercon’s Ruggedised Stainless Steel and harsh environment product lines, providing clients with a single source for various types of ruggedised, protective, and harsh environment products.

‘This product line allows us to offer a high performance solution, positioned between our traditional fibre optic cables and our heavily ruggedised stainless steel, outside plant and harsh environment products’, states Jayson Lizardo, Product Manager for Timbercon.

Overmoulded connector series is available with three, four or five gold-plated contacts with a current carrying capacity of up to 13A each.

Binder-USA has added overmoulded connectors to its 7/8in threaded connector line. The overmoulded connectors are part of Binder’s 870 series and are fully intermateable with the 820 series. The new overmoulded connector series is available with three, four or five gold-plated contacts with a current carrying capacity of up to 13A each.

The overmoulded design ensures sealing up to IP68 which has been tested to survive water submersion to a depth of 18m for up to 24h.

The high degree of sealing is achieved through the use of a highly elastic self-sealing contact carrier made of PUR.

Binder-USA has released its 692 series overmoulded machine connectors.

The overmoulded option is available for straight and angled, male and female plugs.

The connectors feature 3+PE silver plated contacts with current carrying capacity of up to 13A each.

The contacts are crimped to four 1.5mm2 conductors encased in an ultraflexible UL approved PVC jacketed cable which features and outer diameter of 8.6mm.

Standard cable length is 2m.

Other lengths are available on request.

Belden participated in a full fledged, live demonstration of 10GBase-T technology at Solarflare Communications in Irvine, California.

Belden participated in a full fledged, live demonstration of 10GBase-T technology at Solarflare Communications in Irvine, California. The tests were performed using Solarflare’s newly developed 10Xpress 10GBase-T PHY evaluation boards. The validation trials were performed on a 100m Belden IBDN System 10GX channel in a worst-case, four-connector channel configuration (as specified in the TIA augmented Category 6 draft standard, which is currently under development in the TIA TR 42.7 subcommittee).

A seven-cable (six-around-one) configuration was used, with the Belden 10GX cables bundled every eight inches.

The 10Gbit/s Ethernet signals were generated using a traffic generator at the XAUI interface to the PHY evaluation boards.

The 10Gbit/s Ethernet signal was looped back at the far end transceiver and the receiver frames compared with the sending frames.

Live 10GBase-T traffic was transmitted simultaneously on all six neighbouring channels simulating a worst-case alien crosstalk environment.

There were no errors detected for the duration of the testing, which lasted over several hours.

The signal-to-noise ratio monitored during the testing was in excess of 25dB, providing a good margin over the standard.

This truly marks the first real life test to demonstrate the performance capability of 10GBase-T, using Solarflare’s 10GBase-T product over Belden’s 10GX augmented Category 6 cabling.

A real-life example of what this means would be the difference of transmitting high resolution pictures (600 dot/in) at 20 per minute at 1Gbit/s, compared with 200 per minute at 10Gbit/s.

The Belden IBDN System 10GX is not an improved or boosted Category 6 system, but a revolutionary new solution designed around a series of dynamic enabling technologies to ensure the highest level of alien crosstalk isolation and the best electrical performance during high frequency operation.

By popular demand, Yamaichi Electronics has added a USB-B version to its Y-ConIP20Lock cable assembly family. The Y-ConIP20Lock-10 plug and play cable assembly is the most compact USB-B solution with IP20 protection and supplementary lock on the market. This compact design also fits into 19in addon systems.

With the ergonomic locking clips, the component offers a tool-less lock guaranteeing a high level of resistance to vibration and loosening while mated.

This type of protected high-speed USB connection can be used in diverse industrial applications - on both service interfaces or as a main connection, but above all wherever increased demands for vibration resistance exists, eg industrial PCs, transport and mechanical systems.

The screw mounted locking frame on the housing side can be mounted over existing jacks and is available in 1-, 2-, 4- and, on request, 8-way versions.

The standard length for the moulded cable assemblies (which use industrial USB cable with PUR jacket) is 2 metres, but other cable lengths are available on request.
