Featuring max height of 1.2 mm, TLJ Series enriches audio in miniature applications such as PDAs, mobile phones, and digital camera modules by producing clear filtering, piezoless, deep bass performance. RoHS-compliant devices operate over -55 and +125[degrees]C range, providing capacitance versus voltage ratio of 220 [micro]F 4 V in miniature 1411 footprint. They also offer capacitance tolerance of [+ or -]20%.

TLJ Series capacitors enriches sound quality in miniature device applications…

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (February 8, 2007) - AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components, has extended its TLJ Series tantalum capacitor family to include a miniature T case size. Known for its high capacitance versus voltage ratio, the TLJ Series is designed to enrich audio performance in miniature applications such as PDAs, mobile phones, MP3 players and digital camera modules.

The TLJ increases the sound quality by producing a clear filtering, piezoless, deep bass performance for low frequency miniature devices.

“The TLJ Series tantalum capacitor is the first on the market to offer this capacitance value in a T case size,” said Dan Lane, AVX Tantalum Marketing Manager. “Until now, because of space constraints, designers were limited to coupling capacitors with a range up to 100[micro]F, resulting in limited performance in the low frequency spectrum.

Displaying a maximum height of 1.2mm, the TLJ tantalum capacitor offers a capacitance versus voltage ratio of 220[micro]F 4V in a miniature 1411 footprint. The capacitor also delivers a capacitance tolerance of [+ or -]20% and an operating temperature range between -55[degrees]C and +125[degrees]C. Complying with RoHS requirements, the TLJ Series provides 3x reflow, 260[degrees]C peak temperature lead-free assembly systems.

The TLJ Series is also available in standard EIA case sizes A, B, C D and the low profile W.

Typical pricing for the TLJ T case size tantalum capacitor starts at $0.65 in quantities of 10,000 pieces with a lead time of stock to 14 weeks.

Whatever the nature of reactive power compensation in power systems and no matter the voltage level, capacitors are the common elements in all device. Natarajan (president, Practical Power Associates, North Carolina) explains the role of capacitors in power factor correction. He first covers fundamentals such as power factor concepts, industry standards, capacitor specifications, testing of capacitors, location of shunt capacitors, power factor improvement, and system benefits. He then offers chapters on series capacitors, surge capacitors, capacitors for motor and other applications, and static VAR compensation. He then looks at various protection methods, shunt capacitor bank maintenance, system impact issues such as harmonics and induced voltage on the control cables, and economic analysis applicable to the power factor compensation. The reader is required to have a basic knowledge of protection equipment and time- domain analysis.

The ERB series provides higher power and higher frequency over standard multilayer chip capacitors, and the MA series, primarily targeted at radio applications, extends the power range even further. The highest performing GQM series provides a high frequency, high power solution. With applications in the satellite/cable TV, Bluetooth, automotive GPS, cellphone and basestation markets, the GQM series multilayer chip capacitors are available in a frequency range from 500MHz to 10GHz.

Built with a C0G dielectric and contained in miniature 0603 and 0805 packages, the devices have a voltage rating of 50 or 100V.

These high frequency, high Q components feature low power consumption and ultra low ESR, particularly at microwave, UHF and VHF frequencies.

Capacitance ranges vary from 0.1 to 100pF.

The ERB series devices are available in 0603, 0805 or 1210 packages, with voltage ratings from 50V to 500V.

Also built using the C0G dielectric, these high frequency (1MHz to 1GHz), High Q capacitors are offered in capacitances ranging from 0.5 to 1000pF.

The low power consumption ERB series is best suited to telecomms applications, but for very high frequency use, the GQM series delivers superior performance.

Described as high power RF capacitors, the MA series is available in both leaded and chip package configurations with a choice of C0G or P90 dielectrics.

Featuring very high self resonant frequencies, the devices provide low capacitance (from 0.1pF) and tight tolerances.

The MA series are particularly suited to nonmagnetic applications such as RF coils and amplifiers incorporated into sensitive equipment such as those designed for medical and military systems.

These parts are also designed to operate in harsh environments.

Murata’s Hi-Q MLC range is priced competitively, providing excellent value for performance.

All parts are RoHS compliant and already in volume production on 8 to 12 week leadtimes.

Samples and designer kits for design-in and evaluation purposes are readily available.

The parts are manufactured in Japan and take advantage of Murata’s advanced materials research, using copper (GQM series) or palladium electrodes, and sophisticated construction techniques.
