Fan Technology has been added to the scope of the ISO 9002 accreditation of its parent company Aerco Holdings.
Fan Technology, the Horsham based distributor of equipment fans and other cooling products, has been added to the scope of the ISO 9002 accreditation of its parent company Aerco Holdings. This also covers a new Fan Technology workshop facility set up at the Aerco headquarters in Broadbridge Heath, Horsham. These latest developments mean that Fan Technology, purchased by Aerco Holdings in August 2000, is now fully integrated into the Aerco operation.

The new workshop facility is already in operation and allows customers to specify both hot and cold threaded inserts, captive nuts, custom designed harness assemblies, special connectors and other services that allow customisation of fans to either meet specific performance requirements or simplify production methods.

Other activities will include the design and manufacture of fan trays and intelligent cooling systems

APW Electronics has introduced a new range of monitored fan trays (MFTs) for use in its own IMserv server racks or in any standard 19in enclosure.
APW Electronics has introduced a new range of monitored fan trays (MFTs) for use in its own IMserv server racks or in any standard 19in enclosure. The MFT provide the best compromise between cooling effectiveness, noise generation and fan life by dynamically adjusting the fan speed as the temperature changes. The fan tray uses 38mm thick fans to maximise the air throughput, and careful design and material selection enables a wire mesh grill to be used without contravening the 44.45mm 1U height limit.

A mesh grill is preferred because there is much less restriction to the airflow than when apertures are punched from sheet material; the rounded profile of the wire mesh also contributes significantly to reducing noise levels.

The low profile 1U height enables units to be sited under hot spots as required without taking up more than the minimum possible rack height.

To control the fan speed, three different types of sensor are available: fixed or adjustable air sensors and a contact sensor.

A maximum of three sensors can be used on any one MFT, and each sensor can control from one to six fans.

A typical configuration may consist of a top mounted three-fan tray fitted with a fixed temperature sensor and a further three fans sited under two hot spots controlled by a remote sensor.

In the event of a sensor failure, the MFT defaults to full speed operation.

The fan speed is varied according to temperature, typically between 60% and 100% of full speed.

The default setting linearly increases the fan speed from 60% at 20C to 100% at 50C; both the temperature extremes and the spread are adjustable, allowing, for instance, the speed range to be compressed to 60% at 20C and 100% at 30C if a lower maximum temperature is required.

The MFT uses low voltage DC fans, powered from an integral 110/230V AC user-selectable power supply.

Volt-free changeover relay contacts are provided for activating or shutting down ancillary equipment, and audible, visible and TTL signal warnings of a fault condition are a further option.

The unit is available in two depths: 250mm deep, fitted with three fans and 350mm deep that can be fitted with up to six fans.

EAO has expanded its portfolio of Sanyo Denki cooling fans with the addition of a new range of San Ace splashproof fans.
EAO has expanded its portfolio of Sanyo Denki cooling fans with the addition of a new range of San Ace splashproof fans. The design of the new, IPX7 protection rated, San Ace fan features a silicon-sealed motor housing. Thanks to this, the fan is capable of withstanding the 1000h salt-water spray test.

San Ace is therefore ideal for use in those environments where a much higher degree of moisture and humidity than normal is present.

The range which comes in four different frame sizes is available in 12, 24 or 48V DC.

Other options include low, medium and high-speed versions and the inclusion of either a pulse sensor to monitor the operating speed of the fan or a lock sensor to determine whether the fan motor is running or not.

High airflow and high static pressure are strong features of the range with 1.06mü/min typically attained with the 80 x 20mm version (static pressure 39Pa), 1.38mü/min with the 92 x 25mm version (static pressure 45Pa), 3.0mü/min with the 120 x 38mm (static pressure 70Pa) version and 5.9mü/min with the 140 x 51mm version (static pressure 142Pa).

These fans, with UL, TUV and CSA approval, have an L10 life expectancy of 100kh measured at an ambient temperature of 60C.

Operating temperatures range from -10 to +60C and noise levels from 22 to 52dB.

Fan Technology now supplies a range of metal-framed equipment fans that are fitted with threaded holes that greatly reduce fixing times and lower production costs.
Fan Technology now supplies a range of metal-framed equipment fans that are fitted with threaded holes that greatly reduce fixing times and lower production costs. The standard 4.3mm clearance holes incorporated into most equipment fans involve a time consuming process to fix with the aid of nuts, bolts and washers. The often-used alternative of fitting threaded inserts is also a comparatively costly process.

The threaded range from Fan Technology contains fans built in eight frame sizes ranging from 80 to 127mm and operates from a supply voltage of 120 or 230V AC.

Dual voltage versions are also available.

Generating airflow in excess of 120CFM and carrying UL, CSA, VDE and TUV approvals, these new fans will be of great value to all enclosure and instrument cabinet manufacturers.
